Galway City is built tight, and that governs its titles. The medieval core between Eyre Square, Shop Street and the Spanish Arch follows a street plan laid down when the town was walled, and buildings there share party walls, roof structures and passages running back from the frontages. Titles in that quarter depend heavily on registered rights of support, shelter and access, and a folio that omits one of them describes a building that cannot function as it stands. The Corrib is the second defining feature. The river runs fast and short from the lake through the middle of the city to the harbour, and the Claddagh sits where it meets the sea. Planning permission for multiple occupancy and any letting controls are matters for Galway City Council, and foreshore or port interests around the docks sit outside the register.
